Last week we had our first meeting with our Couples Advisory Board.
You might be asking yourself, what’s the Smoov Couples Advisory Board?
The board is a group of 8 hand selected couples from the respondents who applied to our posting over the winter. Naturally one of the goals of this first meeting was for everyone to get to know each other a little better and hear more about what everyone is most excited about from Smoov.
We discovered that we have members from all over the country from LA to Oregon to New Hampshire and Boston.
Besides getting to know each other, the overarching goal of this board and the meetings are to give us a direct line of communication to our customers and for them to help direct the product in ways that will suit them best. We need to stay as close to our customers as possible to make sure that we're building the best platform for couples and their money!
With this in mind we discussed how each couple has previously been tracking and splitting their shared expenses before Smoov.
As expected we heard a range of answers - as we've said before, there is no one size fits all solution for couples and their money.
Some couples just switch off paying for groceries and dinners and let the rest come out in the wash... but then it doesn't.
While others have created excel sheets and plug in each expense and then send one large venmo each month.
Then others send venmo’s constantly back and forth, as opposed to tallying everything up later. By doing it in the moment, you solve the problem of remembering which expenses you split, but it also can be super awkward and kind of ruins the vibe.
As each couple discussed their respective challenges together we noticed a common thread.
While everyone had come up with their own unique solution today, all of their existing workarounds were completely manual, and time consuming in a way that took away from time they wanted to be enjoying and sharing together.
With this takeaway, we're reassured that as we put the final touches on Smoov before we launch this summer, all of the couples on the board know Smoov is the solution that solves their challenge of managing expenses together. We also spent a good amount of time brainstorming things we can help with after we master the expenses.
